about

Written with the wonderful late and much missed Gully Smith who wrote "Touch of paradise" and was a great guy. I really loved writing with him and we only got to write 2 songs together before he passed away.

lyrics

Black & White Woman
©Tony King & Gullifer Smith May 1995

I went down town to meet the queen of chess
They said she’d be wearing a black and white dress
She’d never been defeated ..even by a Russian
and someone broke her heart...They said..
and someone broke her heart

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

Everything about her was black & white she looked like a porcelain doll in the moonlight
and she hasn’t seen indigo yellow or green
since someone broke her heart
you know that someone broke her heart.

Yeah Yeah
Black & white woman
where did your colours go?
Black & white woman
Don’t tell me you don’t know.
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

She said I’ll move you around the board like a puppet on a string
But real people.. that’s another thing..
If only they were pawns or bishops or knight’s
I would know just what to do
I would know just what to do..
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

She invited me in to her sanctuary,
past a gallery of black & white photography
She said you Know when a lover takes a picture of you,
they take away your soul..
you know they take away your soul.

Yeah Yeah Yeah
Black & white woman Yeah
where did your colours go Yeah
Black & white woman Yeah
Don’t tell me you don’t know...
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

she said
Lavender blue ..lavender green.
He was the King and said I would be Queen.
He went away and he never came back
and the colours faded down the road in a Cadillac

Yeah Yeah
Black & white woman
where did your colours go
Black & white woman
Don’t tell me you don’t know...
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

I had a broken
!dream and I Know how you feel
I’d like you to have something that helped me to heal
inside this locket is a petal from a rose
Wear it on your heart til the anger goes...
until the anger goes..
Yeah Yeah

Black & white woman Yeah
where did your colours go Yeah

Black & white woman Yeah
where did your colours go Yeah

Black & white woman Yeah
where did your colours go Yeah

Black & white woman Yeah
Don’t tell me you don’t know...Yeah Yeah
Don’t tell me you don’t know...Yeah Yeah
Don’t tell me you don’t know...

Yeah Yeah yeah..

about

Beautifully Mad Sydney, Australia

Breathtaking original music reminiscent of the beauty of James Taylor, some honey from Melody Gardot, a lyrical spice of Cohen washed down with some Waits-like humour. A musical flame that licks at the heels of Folk and Jazz
